Plastics & Packaging M&A Quarterly  —
Second Quarter 2008

PMCF has reformatted our quarterly publication to showcase analysis from our proprietary plastics and packaging transaction database.  The structure includes in-depth research, organized by plastic processing segment activity, including transaction trends and outlook, industry news, and key transactions.  Some of the key observations from the first half of 2008 are as follows:

  • The most active segments of transaction activity included injection molding, film, and raw materials (resin suppliers and compounders)
  • Large deals ($250 million or more in transaction value) continued to exhibit lower levels of activity than transactions below this threshold
  • Cross-border transactions showed increased activity of foreign firms buying in the U.S. with a sharp decline in U.S. organizations purchasing overseas
  • Private equity participated at lower levels than the first half of 2007 and preferred add-on acquisitions to existing holdings versus larger platform deals
  • Valuations remain favorable for middle market transactions ranging slightly lower than 2007 levels
